Programme Note

Tonight’s concert in the Brandenburg Choral Festival of London welcomes not one, but two choirs for this wide-ranging programme of choral music. In the first half the spirited Woolwich Singers perform some of their favourites, including folk tunes, jazz standards, pop songs, and the catchy and popular Adiemus by that giant of the contemporary choral repertoire, Karl Jenkins. In the second half Côr Llunsain transport us to the rolling hills and valleys of Wales, with traditional and contemporary Welsh works for choir, many of which have been inspired by the country’s distinctive landscape.  The choir will also give the world premiere of Ave Maria, by the young Welsh composer Richard Vaughan, and the second UK performance of Rise Up by American composer Jake Runestad.  Tribute will be paid to the pop legends who were lost in 2016, George Michael, Prince and David Bowie, in a medley arranged by the choir’s conductor, Hannah Gill.
