Programme Note

“All art constantly aspires to the condition of music”, said the art critic Walter Pater. In this unique concert, Exultate Singers explores the relationship between paintings and music. Dr Beth Williamson, Reader in History of Art at the University of Bristol, introduces paintings from around the world and across the centuries. Works by Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, Canaletto, Monet, Dalí, Delacroix, Whistler, Kandinsky and Jackson Pollock will be projected above the choir as they perform music associated with and inspired by the paintings. This year’s Sense of the Divine concert will be a feast for the eyes as well as the ears.
