Programme Note

Violinist Tom Aldren joins the Primrose strings again for the coffee concert in All Saints, East Meon, featuring Viennese string quartets.

Haydn's "Sunrise" quartet (1797) and
Mozart's "Prussian" quartet in D Major (1789) were amongst both composers' final works for the genre and show them at the height of their powers of invention.

The Langsamer Satz was written in June 1905 when Webern had spent the spring of that year hiking in Lower Austria with his cousin Wilhelmine and had fallen desperately in love with her.

Written in the rich, late Romantic style of his teacher Arnold Schönberg's early works, it is a love song to the woman he would later marry.

Coffee will be served before the concert from 11am.
