Take the opportunity to revel in the classics or discover something new, all in a whistle-stop lunch hour! Mozart’s magnificent C major piano concerto has something of a Beethovian air about it – certainly Beethoven references it in his own Fourth Piano Concerto, and the famous motif of his Fifth Symphony can also be heard. There’s lots to love in this, the longest and perhaps the most virtuosic of Mozart’s piano concertos: a touching slow movement, a march reminiscent of the then unwritten ‘Le Marseillaise’ and an animated finale with its gavotte theme from Idomeneo.
