Programme Note

Emily Sun, winner of the 2017 Bromsgrove International Musicians’ Competition, showcases four titans of the solo violin repertoire, opening today’s recital with an energetic sonata by Beethoven. Fauré’s achingly beautiful piece completes the programme alongside two lyrical works: The folk melodies of home echo in Grieg’s final sonata, and the recital closes with a virtuosic celebration of Gershwin’s most popular opera.
