Programme Note

A programme to mark the 250th anniversary of American Independence:

Copland's dreamy and hopeful Appalachian Spring,  Barber's  gloriously poetic violin concerto that contrasts songful lyricism with break neck dexterity,  and Dvorák's warm and nostalgic New World Symphony.

Our leader, Ruth Rogers takes the solo spot in this programme. Her playing has been described as 'not calculated in any sense, her performance style and technique so assured that the music flows as a natural consequence of innermost understanding.'  Music Opinion
