Programme Note

Hamburg Treasures!

University Baroque Ensemble delves into the rich output of some of Hamburg’s Baroque composers, including the well-loved Viola Concerto by Telemann, string music by his godson CPE Bach, works by Handel and the delectable Suite from Hercules und Hebe by the lesser-known Reinhard Keiser, a prolific opera composer who was described by his contemporary Johann Mattheson as ‘the greatest opera composer in the world’.
