Add to my Calendar 25-10-2016 19:30 25-10-2016 21:30 36 Alison Balsom and the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra Three-time Classical Brit winner Alison Balsom has cemented an international reputation as one of classical music's great ambassadors, most recently receiving an OBE in the Queen's 2016 Birthday Honours. Following the Symphony No. 44 of Haydn - a jewel of the 'Sturm und Drang' genre - Balsom performs the breezy Trumpet Concerto of Johann Nepomuk Hummel, the one-time protege of Mozart. Upon visiting Linz in 1783, Wolfgang wrote to this father 'as I have not a single symphony with me, I am writing a new one at breakneck speed'. The resulting 'Linz' symphony certainly shows no signs of haste throughout its blazing profusion of thematic ideas. Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford DD/MM/YYYYDetails
