Programme Note

The 2024 Festival triumphantly closes with 3 Czech pieces of music which will sweep you away with their energy, sunshine and vivacity.

Kaprálová lived for only 25 years, but in that time she composed a large portfolio of music for all sorts of forces, which are finally being rediscovered, performed and recorded: her string quartet has been neglected for decades, and everyone at the Festival is delighted to bring it to the public domain in our Grand Finale.

Janácek’s solitary work for cello and piano is based on a Russian fairytale called “The Tale of Tsar Berendyey”.

Dvorák’s string quartet will majestically bring proceedings for another year to a close, with its wonderful melodies and soaring harmonies.

See you all next year!

Grand Finale with Su-a Lee – Cello
