Programme Note

Jubilate!  Rejoice!  In this concert we encourage you to rejoice through music, despite the shortening days and the coming of winter.  Benjamin Britten's setting of the poem Rejoice in the Lamb by the 18th century poet Christopher Smart conveys the poet's agitated state of mind but also his joy in his faith - as expressed through the demeanour of his cat! We offer you contrasting settings of the Jubilate Deo, by Britten, Purcell and Walton, as well as the quietly joyful Salvator Mundi by John Blow.
