Schubert’s string quintet is guaranteed to take your breath away with its blossoming melodies and rhythmic fragments, in particular the slower movement, the Adagio. Strauss’ Metamorphosen, composed over 100 year after Schubert’s quintet, is surrounded by mystery, as it is not yet fully clear how the title should be interpreted.
