Programme Note

Tredici’s Spring Concert presents an exploration of French sacred choral music spanning a variety of styles and landscapes. The programme opens with three Gregorian motets by Maurice Duruflé and a rarely heard setting of Psalm 84 by Camille Saint-Saëns.

We then turn to the large Mass settings of Louis Vierne and Charles Gounod, whose expansive musical language engages both choir and organ in works of breadth and expressive power. Throughout the programme, the four-manual Willis organ of St Paul’s Knightsbridge plays a central role, shaping the musical architecture and enriching the dialogue between voices and instrument. Two of the works also include harp, adding an additional layer of colour to the sound world.
