Programme Note

Oxford Pro Musica Singers present a fabulous feast of floral and choral favourites for a spring evening in Abingdon-on-Thames.

Two contrasting song cycles form the basis of the programme: Benjamin Britten’s characterful 'Five Flower Songs' and the mesmerising 'Chansons des Roses' by Morten Lauridsen. The programme also includes several of Gerald Finzi’s partsongs to texts by Robert Bridges, and other works with a floral theme by Wilbye, Guerrero and Eric Whitacre. Lastly, Finzi's 'White-Flowering Days' anticipates jubilee celebrations, as one of ten pieces in 'A Garland for the Queen', commissioned for Her Majesty's coronation in 1953.

We are delighted that this concert is being generously sponsored by Fabulous Flowers of Abingdon.
