Musicke in the Ayre

Programme Note

A programme of songs to the lute from the reign of Louis XIII - this was the period in which Dumas' tale of the Three Musketeers was set. Carmel Edwards and Jane Hunt come together again with Din Ghani to explore this elegant repertoire that's full of charm. Court composers Boesset, Guedron, Moulinie, and Richard excel in the art of the Air de cour, painting the "3 Ls" (loving, lauding and languishing) in pastoral tones. The dialogue was a particular favourite sub-genre in this period.

This is the second concert in Musicke in the ayre's 2024 series at the glorious St Mary's Bathwick.

Refreshments available before and after the performance.
