Programme Note

Referred to as the Roaring Twenties, Les Annés Folles and the Jazz Age, the 1920’s was an era of boundary-breaking creativity, innovation and exploration. Tonight’s programme consists of works for violin and piano written a hundred years ago, from 1925-1927, providing an opportunity to hear how four composers approached their writing at the same moment in history. Although the composers are of different nationalities (Russia, Romania, America and France) and each has a unique voice, they are connected via a combination of friendship and professional admiration, and also by cultural and musical influences from Paris and America, with elements of jazz and folk incorporated into their compositions
