He will take centre stage in Gerald Finzi's virtuosic clarinet concerto. Artistic Director Thomas Carroll conducts a programme showcasing music that has inspired our own development. Bernstein’s infectious energy opens the concert in a whirlwind Overture to Candide and we are so excited to have the opportunity to perform Cheryl Frances-Hoad’s brilliantly musical writing in Beyond the Road Begun. The second-half features Brahms’s iconic Symphony No. 1. Widely regarded as one of the best symphonies of the Austro-German canon, it was nearly 20 years in the making and is simply utterly glorious in its Brahmsian lyricism and thematic unity.
