If you're looking for a romantic candlelit experience - or simply want to enjoy some classical music greats in a gorgeous setting - then this is the concert for you. UK based chamber orchestra London Concertante regularly performs up to and over one hundred concerts per year, making it the busiest ensemble of its kind in the country. With their numerous recordings reaching great critical acclaim, the ensemble has continually been regarded as one of the finest groups in Europe since its founding in 1991.
This program is inaugurated by Rossini’s String Sonata No. 2. A charming sonata composed by Rossini when he was just 12 years old, this piece is full of all the rich playfulness one could expect from the composer. Following this is Holst’s St. Paul's Suite - the first piece he wrote in the music wing of St Paul’s Girls’ School, in a soundproof music room that was constructed for him. The suite is bursting with staggering string writing and traditional folk melodies, which makes for truly joyous listening. All of this before Vivaldi’s baroque masterpiece: the iconic Four Seasons. Four concerti full of glistening melodies and enthralling instrumental interplay, marked by Vivaldi’s playful and effervescent style. For classical music lovers and casual listeners alike - this promises to be a truly special evening.
