Britten Sinfonia: The Last Letter
To commemorate the end of the Great War Britten Sinfonia premiere a new arrangement of Nico Muhly’s poignant The Last Letter as part of a compelling and dramatic evening of music and words.

At the heart of the performance, which has been devised by Dr Kate Kennedy, a specialist in the music and poetry of the period, is a new setting for baritone and chamber orchestra of Nico Muhly’s poignant The Last Letter, five songs using the texts of letters by First World War German and English soldiers and their loved ones. Poetry readings and music by composers and poets from both sides of the conflict, including Wilfred Owen, Ivor Gurney, Vera Brittain, Frederick Septimus Kelly and Rudi Stephan, will feature in the programme.
