Duo Eunoia

Programme Note

Duo Eunoia is passionate about discovering the work of lesser-known and contemporary composers, and they share a varied and contrasting selection of music with their listeners - from meditative sounds to magical scenarios, old traditions to folk melodies - to inspire each person’s own creative mind.

Half the program is by living women composers (Kala Ramnath, Lera Auerbach, Roxanna Panufnik, Elena Kats-Chernin, and Marika Takeuchi), alongside the premiere of a manuscript work by Isobel Dunlop (1901–1975). Their music sits shoulder-to-shoulder with widely performed repertoire, not only from the classical tradition (Maurice Ravel), but also highlighting distinctive national sounds (Portuguese guitarist and composer Carlos Paredes and Spanish composer Enrique Granados), as well as the jazz-influenced writing of Claus Ogerman. The program is threaded together through spoken reflections and open thoughts between the pieces, inviting the audience into the ideas, questions, and connections behind the music.

A hot drink and a pastry are included in the ticket price.
