Musicke in the Ayre

Programme Note

In the hey-day of the lute, then the king of instruments, songs sung to the lute was the most popular form of solo vocal music across Europe. Soprano Carmel Edwards returns to the Countess of Huntingdon's Chapel (Musicke in the Ayre's home venue in Bath) to perform again with lutenist/leader Din Ghani in this delightful programme exploring the lute ayre from both sides of the Channel. The English lute song is contrasted with the French Air de cour - come and find out which you enjoy most!
