Programme Note

The Chilingirian Quartet perform two classical masterworks: Mozart’s beautiful E-flat quartet, and with Andrew Marriner, the ever-popular Clarinet Quintet by Johannes Brahms. In between, comes music from Armenia: a selection of Songs and Dances by Soghomon Soghomonian, known as Komitas, the Ottoman-Armenian priest, composer and musicologist, in arrangements for a quartet made by Soviet Armenian composer Sergei Aslamazian. This is paired with the fugal quartet by another famous Soviet Armenian, Aram Khachaturian.
