But Thomas is also a pianist, and has recently given recitals accompanying himself, including at Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, reviving a lost tradition of the singer-pianist. In tonight’s programme – the first of three Festival concerts following this format – he sings and plays Schubert’s monumental Winterreise.
