Programme Note

This typically eclectic feast of a programme is characteristic of the much-admired Crouch End Festival Chorus under its conductor, David Temple, as it returns once again to the glorious surroundings of Holy Trinity Sloane Square.

Bruckner’s Mass in E minor, originally composed for the outdoors, sounds magnificent in a large church. A 15-piece woodwind and brass group joins CEFC in music that echoes the world of Palestrina, Gabrieli and Schütz. Scored for similar forces, Stravinsky’s Mass inhabits an entirely different sound-world – chant-like, stark and hypnotically beautiful.

Jessica Curry, whose award-winning music for video games has touched so many, wrote several songs during a time of extreme personal difficulty that are featured on her 2025 album, Shielding Songs. Powerful and pure, CEFC will perform three of them - Kiss the Bairns, Pie Jesu and Home

Philip Glass's Vessels is the energetic, mesmeric number from his iconic score for the cult documentary film, Koyaanisqatsi.
