Programme Note

Two of the great musical evocations of the Napoleonic Wars form the heart of this exciting concert- Haydn’s Mass, performed by the hugely acclaimed Academia Musica Choir, is a powerful plea for love and peace, while Beethoven’s Eroica is the greatest-ever musical manifesto in the cause of human liberty and freedom. The concert opens with a new tone poem by Philip Sawyers inspired by the paintings of Samuel Palmer, a work brimming with colour, melody and drama in the best Beethovenian spirit.

“a performance of great life and character which brought a real freshness to Beethoven’s Eroica…”  The Classical Reviewer

“This is the kind of music that gives one hope for the future of our art” – Classical Source
