Described by the Sunday Times as “exuberantly stylish”, Julian Perkins enjoys a demanding career as a conductor and keyboard player. He is the Artistic Director of Cambridge Handel Opera and Founder Director of Sounds Baroque. For this highly intimate lunchtime event in Petworth’s Catholic Church, Julian will introduce us to the clavichord, the elegant stringed keyboard instrument that was used largely in the late Medieval, through the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical eras. Historically, it was mostly used as a practice instrument and as an aid to composition, not being loud enough for larger performances.
