Programme Note

Following in the footsteps of his mentor Gustavo Dudamel, the sensational young Venezuelan conductor Rafael Payare makes his LSO debut with Dukas’s bewitching tone-poem and Rimsky-Korsakov’s glittering Oriental symphonic fantasy. The Russian 'lioness of the keyboard' Elisabeth Leonskaja is renowned for the passion and intelligence of her interpretations. Here she pays homage to her adopted city with Beethoven’s Second Concerto.
